How to Master the muscle anatomy Fast & Avoid the 5 Most Common Mistakes Anatomy Anatomy of Exercise Science = Foundation

Learning anatomy as a professional fitness is like learning to build a foundation as an architect, it supports everything else!

Others yet is built on top of it!

Personal training is very dynamic and intimate, so I suppose you could make the same claims about personality as foundational, and if the client does not want to spend time with you because of your bad attitude or bad communication skills, it really does not matter how much you know!

But that's why we break up personal training Sills categories. Because training is so dynamic, it is helpful to break up the different skill set in 3 key mega-competencies: interpersonal skills, exercise science, and business acumen.

Anatomy and biomechanics is the very foundation exercise science, in physiology secondary. (What's physiology anyway, unless your anatomies response to the forces / mechanics? Feel free to disagree with the comments, I know this is not a popular perspective, but I think it is worth a review.)

It really does not matter how much you know about others other areas of exercise science, if you have a strong foundation in biomechanics and anatomy, you will not be accurate and safe to apply your knowledge.

Type anatomy

Within the anatomy, with multiple focuses, neural anatomy, bony anatomy, muscular anatomy. As a trainer, it is essential to keep in mind how many other structures with the body that affect the performance and health.

Yes, we should initially be focused on muscular anatomy, but as fitness professionals, we have to keep in mind that we tend too focused on the muscles sometimes. Typically, a severe muscle tighten due to a fascial restrictions! everything is connected to everything through the fascial network. Just keep this in mind when you are solving problems and learning.

As you advance, more time should be spent learning more advanced anatomy as fascial anatomy and the anatomy of tendons, ligaments, and how they attach to skin the skin surface.

Practice makes perfect

There's a lot of great tools out there to learn anatomy. Use these tools, the first One is free, and training other trainers. Create cards, ask each other, and try to link to specific names in your own exercise routine when you workout.

Atlas of Human Anatomy DVD Set-dvd set is amazing! I watched all but one of the DVD (the 6th one is about the organs). While it is pricey side to get all 6 at once, this is a good reference for anyone who wants to take their anatomy to the next level. They really develop a fresh corpse in front of you, with specific animation to show each origin and insertion. They start with the bony anatomy, and then build the muscle shallow depth from above, showing The tissue from 360 views. Then they show the vascular and neural anatomy, and have quizzes between each section. You can also start with just one DVD at a time, and just watch 10 minutes a day. It's fascinating! All the intricate body structures are the evolutionary Reaction Force! DVD 1, 2, and 3 are most important for the newer trainers, as they have the upper extremity, lower extremities, and trunk / core.

Strength Training Anatomy Book - This is a great book. Detailed, colorful and just plain fun to look at. Muscle illustrations are very much a jacked body builder, it is not what you would normally find in a general client population, but it is a cool guide to basic anatomy. There is not as much attention to the anatomy of "passive structures" (Bones, ligaments, tendons) and brain anatomy.

Corpse Course - One of the best ways to learn is to get your hands dirty! I went to this class and it was awesome! We are so used to thinking of tissues as separate, as they appear in the book, but all these are intertwined together! It's eye opening to see the fibers of the rhomboid fibers of the serratus fans! It looked like a muscle! This is a link to the RTS website. They have a body class in Pittsburgh and Connecticut. If you are in other parts of the world, you should be able to find a corpse in any university class with related courses. The cool thing about anatomy elective RTS you can get continuing education credits, and it is a necessity for your Resistance Training Specialist certification. But do not let it stop you if you is not in CT or Pittsburgh, find a class and get your hands dirty!

Most Common Mistakes Anatomy!

These are the biggest mistake of fitness professionals and make books about anatomy:

1. The action of the muscle tissue is dependent on its position! Yes, your the hip adductors move your legs inward toward each other when they were abducted, BUT they will extend the trend if you're into hip is completely flexed, or expand hip if it is fully flexed. If you are just starting out, do not get confused, just focus on the most obvious muscular action, but keep in mind that each muscle positional function, and change according to the position of the joints.

2. Each muscle has some sort of function on each plane, and is an eccentric action, concentric action, and isometric action. Oh, and by each plane, I do not mean all 3 planes because there is an infinite # of planes (other anatomy major yet common mistakes.) What plane is cutting a diagonal to your arm? If blow your mind, I recommend getting a RTS certification asap!

3. We tend to focus on the superficial muscles and muscle ahead because they are easier to see and peaceful our vanity! Do not make mistakes it to your own body or your clients, no balance, symmetry, and the deeper / smaller stabilizers, HAS to be a cripple sooner or later!

4. DO NOT try to impress your clients with your knowledge of anatomy! Naming the deep hip rotators 6 will not impress your prospect! Except if they are a doctor, they probably just confused and intimidated! Always talk to your client in a language they understand, it is better for communication and sales. Yes, as build a relationship, you should expand the knowledge of your clients to make their control of their fitness, but even then, focus on giving them practical knowledge and Latin names. At the beginning, if they say "I want smaller arms, they look like old lady arms", you say "Well program This is particularly the grandmother target weapon. "You will sell more packages guaranteed.

5. One other quick note on language. At all costs, avoid using the word "functional" where ever you want just sound knowledge. Yes people like it, and it is a buzz word, but the noise words are often very effective communication. Instead of "functional" saying "XYZ or exercise program will help to function better you on ABC or less performing on ABC or transfer activity over ABC. "Major pet peeve of mine! not only sound intelligent when you can be smart!
