Giant Gundam Statue 30th Anniversary in Japan

Any Gundam followers out there was rather pleased to know that there was a commission in Japan for a gigantic 59ft Gundam statue was erected in Tokyo. The idea was brought forward to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the mecha anime craze, where an exhibition to celebrate it is soon to begin.

Gundam began as a series of small episodes of anime that featured giant robots (mecha), which started by Sunrise Studios. Initial series called Mobile Suit Gundam, which began in 1979, and grew so quickly that it later became a huge franchise in some sequels and prequels - with alternating timelines and stories - all of which are shown in various media such as manga, fiction novels, video games and anime on TV. Gundam is just an umbrella term for the whole concept and, quite frankly, this statue is not over just yet dwarf under it all. This is an estimation, in by many, an art that has done well to combine great stories, anime, sci-fi and oddball characters that you care about.

Preliminary pictures and plans drawn up for design look absolutely spectacular. I can not imagine what it would be like standing next to the giant piece of art itself, but I was sure I was grinning from ear to ear. See video and photos below for a look at the coolest monument built in years! Well, I think so anyway.
